Crash on I65 near Whitestown, IN snarls traffic 9-29-14 … that’s the headline I was writing in my head yesterday evening as I spent an hour on Interstate 65 traveling from the 131 mile marker to the 135 marker. I finally had the opportunity to … leave the roadway and exit. I navigated to the frontage road and stopped opposite the cleanup of the accident where the driver of a southbound tractor-trailer combination reportedly sideswiped a car on the shoulder before crashing into three cars in the northbound lanes.
A semitrailer-truck driver who was involved in a five-vehicle crash Monday evening on I-65 was being held in the Boone County jail on a charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
Police said Jerry Ramey, 42, [of] Richmond, Ky, was driving a … semi southbound on I-65 when he sideswiped a passenger vehicle that had been sitting on the shoulder of the road, … near Whitestown. Upon impact, Ramey’s truck swerved, crossed the road, and went into the median guardrail, spewing debris into the northbound lanes and striking three oncoming vehicles.
… Ramey … was taken to jail, where police found his blood-alcohol count was 0.18, more than twice the legal limit.
So, as someone who loves big toys …
I couldn’t pass the opportunity to grab some shots of the heavy wreckers on the scene including my first Century, 75-ton, rotator on a five-axle Kenworth chassis.
