Bar mitzvah portrait with a torah

As my nephew’s bar mitzvah quickly approaches, I thought I’d share a quick portrait from the synagogue. Part of the photography session includes a Bar mitzvah portrait with a torah. Often there are several torah scrolls within the ark and they may be dressed differently, so I try to let the guest of honor choose which they’d like to hold for the portrait. I have found on many occasions that they have a specific preference which either comes from their preparatory studies or simply an artistic choice.

Jonah chose this torah with a beautiful cover.

Some torah scrolls are heavier than others any may require an out-of-view assist to keep it balanced. This was not the case here. Larry Shapiro photo
