Faces of firemen after battling a fire

A fire today in Deerfield, IL gave me another opportunity to captureĀ faces of firemen after battling a fire … since I arrived after the fire was basically out. In all cases, I utilized a long lents (Canon EOS 75-200 F2.8 USM IS) with a very shallow depth of field (F4.0 or F5.6) to isolate the subject from the distractions of the background.

Here are a few of the images, there will be more tomorrow.

In somewhat the format of the paparazzi, this image captured the expression of an officer surrounded by his crew. Larry Shapiro photo

Though heavily cropped, this image concentrates less on the face of the fireman as it includes more of his gear and gives a sense of him performing a task. Larry Shapiro photo

A bit more distant than the other shots here, this was meant to illustrate more of the personal protective equipment (PPE) that is standard for all firefighters. Larry Shapiro photo
