Live Oak Canopy at a Southern Plantation

On a trip to Jasper County, SC for a fire truck shoot, the deputy chief brought me to this beautiful driveway lined with Live Oaks. Unique to the southern Unites States, the trees along the path create a breathtaking canopy.

The overcast morning allowed for increased shadow detail under the canopy of trees.

The lack of a bright sun overhead brings out the green moss on the limbs and the overall detail beneath the trees. Even with the cloud cover, the humidity seemed to be about 120% and the temperature was in the high 80s.

Here’s some information found online about these trees:

“Unlike most oak trees, which are deciduous, southern live oaks are nearly evergreen.”

Quercus virginiana, also known as the southern live oak, is an evergreen oak tree endemic to the Southeastern United States.”
