After completing an assignment in White Cliffs, New Mexico a while back, Dorothy and I were heading to Albuquerque for the night. Heading east on Interstate 40 which runs alongside Route 66, we pulled off the road to admire this beautiful sunset as the sun began to dip below the mountains shooting rays of light towards the sky.

Shrubs and desert in the foreground have just enough detail to illustrate the setting without distracting from the bright sky and scattered clouds. Even the power lines, often considered a distraction, play into the image as the vanishing point uses them to direct the viewer’s attention toward the brilliant sun.
