On a road trip back from a truck shoot in Ohio, Dorothy and I stopped a a truck stop for gas and … essential needs. We noticed a beautiful field along one side of the Loves Truck Stop in Knightstown, IN. I spotted the huge expanse of yellow flowers wondering just what had been planted and thinking that I needed to photograph it for my library of scenic images to substitute in the future for mundane backgrounds.

Dorothy who is keenly into flowers and plants, promptly informed me that what I had grown fond of was a huge field of weeds. She has a phone app to identify flora, and it confirmed that we were looking at rapeseed.

Information online stated: Yes, rapeseed can be considered a weed in certain contexts. While it’s a cultivated crop grown for oil and other uses, it can also become a weed if it is allowed to go to seed and spread unintentionally into areas where it is not desired.
