Several years ago I attended the Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville, KY on behalf of Freightliner Trucks. One of my assignments was to create environmental portraiture of several owner/operators with their Freightliner trucks.
The conditions were not ideal. An enormous parking lot was full of all different types of trucks on display. Many were entered into contests to be judged in various categories. I was only a visitor and had no control over any aspect of the site. I was to wander through and meet owners who I would offer a portrait that might be featured in a magazine.
Options were limited as was space. But that was understood and part of the environment that I was capturing. I was using a medium-format Mamiya RZ67. I had both a normal and a wide-angle lens. As you can see by the samples, it was a matter of bringing the owners into the frame with their trucks … so they did not all look the same.
The good news was that the trucks were spotless.
