While sitting alongside a somewhat barren road in the desert north of Phoenix, I was shooting a beautiful sunrise to the east. At the same time, I was looking into the western sky at a near full moon. The colors in both directions were spectacular. As I shot frames of the sun, I swiveled the camera around on the tripod to get this image of the moon in the morning sky over the desert.
My morning began before sunrise as I waited for the morning glow to emerge behind the mountains. I was situated on a concrete slab along the roadway, somewhat weary of what might be lurking in the darkness of the desert. As the ambient light grew brighter around me, I spotted some movement about 25 feet away … and noticed two coyotes. I kept a eye on them … trying to remember if they were aggressive towards people, and then whether or not these two knew were of the same mindset. I took a few steps towards my car … and then began to look all around me in case there were others. Fortunately they crossed the road and moved farther away. My wife assures me that she heard somewhere that coyotes didn’t attack anything larger than them … a comforting thought coming from someone that wasn’t there with me.
