Photographing fire trucks

It’s not always a beautiful sunny day when I am out photographing fire trucks. Sometimes, like this visit to Harrisburg, PA, it’s overcast when I’m there and I don’t know when I’ll have the opportunity to visit again. It was actually starting to rain when I photographed this Pierce Arrow XT engine from the Progress Fire Company of Harrisburg, PA. So, you have to make the best of the situation at hand. For me, that meant bringing out my tripod, because I knew that I wanted a lower ISO and maximum depth of field. That was going to require a slow shutter speed and the tripod made that possible.

I did a few post production enhancements to brighten things up a bit, and I was able to capture the lights with nice detail.
